On the 16th June 2026, Elmete Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 111 hosted a truly memorable meeting at Westbourne House. It was a pleasure to see the Lodge in such fine form, welcoming a distinguished delegation headed by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, supported by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master and a goodly number of Acting Provincial Officers of the year.
The energy in the room was high as we also welcomed a delegation from Hipperholme Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 715, who were there to formally pass on the Travelling Porphyry stone – a great tradition aimed to encourage visiting between our Lodges.
The main event of the evening was the Elevation of Bro. Abdul Rashid Thomas of St Chad Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 374. The ceremony was, in a word, superb. It was clear that the Lodge had dedicated a great deal of hard work to their preparation, resulting in a seamless and sincere performance. The Worshipful Master, W. Bro. David Hancox, steered his Lodge masterfully, while the ritual work was expertly handled by W. Bro. Richard Beecroft (Senior Deacon and explanation of the steps), W. Bro. Richard Brown (Signs and Secrets), and W. Bro. Roger Quick (Working Tools).
The evening concluded with a delicious festive board – the fish cakes followed by the fish pie were an absolute treat – and enjoyed the kind of warmth and fellowship that makes our Order so special.
A huge well done to everyone at Elmete Lodge for a brilliant evening of masonry. Welcome Bro. Abdul to the world of The Ancient and Honourable Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariner.
