Barnoldswick 17th March 2026. With over 20 Brethren present, the ‘main event’ was the delivery of a lecture by W.Bro. Simon Gazzard entitled ‘Origins of the Mark in Operative Masonry’ which was extremely enlightening and well received by the Brethren.
However, under any other business’ the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Sam Cariss, asked that Brother Nigel Buckland be brought before him.
Nigel was then presented with a Vice Patron Charitable Collarette. ‘Nowt unusual in that’ you can be excused for thinking, but what made this so special was the fact that this was only Nigel’s SECOND meeting as a Mark Man having been advanced as recently as last November thereby receiving such recognition before he has even received his Grand Lodge Certificate!

Now that is unusual and quite some achievement – maybe even a record? – so many congratulations and well-done Nigel.
Nigel raised the funds on behalf of the C.W.T and M.B.F, along with other worthy causes, by undertaking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.
In thanking and presenting him with his certificate and collarette on behalf of our P.G.M, Sam, himself a former Elected Charity Member, said:
“… Until we need it ourselves, we can only begin to imagine the relief and hope that your contributions bring to those in need, but let’s not lose sight of the fact it is only because of the humanity and altruism in you, and others like you, that the Charity can continue to deliver that hope and bring much needed relief when and where necessary and in a timely fashion”.
A lesson and timely reminder to us all Brethren.
A very convivial and enjoyable Festive Board followed the meeting.
It might be the back of beyond, but if you’re ever passing B’lick, pop in see us – you’ll receive a warm, Mark welcome and you’ll not be disappointed!
With thanks to W.Bro. Sam Cariss P.A.G.Swd.B.
