Escafeld Lodge of Mark Master Masons No.1139. Wednesday 16th April 2025

The Installation of W.Bro. Phillip Glover was attended by V.W.Bro. Philip Oldfield Assistant Provincial Grand Master and, a small but quality Provincial team – W.Bro. Rod Dyer Prov. G.S.W., W.Bro. John Fitzpatrick Prov. G.M.O., W.Bro. Ian Schofield a Prov. A.G.D.C. together with W.Bro. Graham Littlewood Elected Representative of the Charity Committee.

The Lodge was opened in due form by W.Bro. Richard Morley and the order of business conducted.

The Provincial team entered with the usual pomp. The gavel was offered by Richard to Philip but was politely refused. The new Master Elect was then presented and as he is a Past Master it was a shortened Installation but delivered with concise decorum by W.Bro. John Maxwell, it was a pleasure to be there.

The newly installed W.M. installed his officers with an explanation of their roles, which is something you don’t often see. It was nice to see three junior Brethren moving up the ladder, Bro. Daniel Wilson to J.W., Bro. Kevin Ebbs to J.O. and Bro. Alister Zerhati to J.D.

Special mention must go to W.Bro. Alan Corbridge as the Lodge D.C. who had an unbelievable juggling act to make it happen before and during the ceremony.  Well done, Alan.

By the way, the Prov. A.G.D.C. W.Bro. Ian Schofield presented the working Tools to the W.M. with less than a minute’s notice and, as you would expect, it was done with a plomb.

At the Festive Board speeches were conducted in good order. In particular there was a very moving speech read to the W.M. from W.Bro. Tony Hobson who, unfortunately, could not attend. Philip made reference to The Provincial Meeting last Saturday (12/4/25) saying what a wonderful event it was, and it was a pity that some Brethren could not attend due to restrictions on the numbers. W.Bro. Graham Littlewood gave an informative speech about the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust and, its importance to the Mark Masons of West Yorkshire and how important it is to keep supporting where we can. The toast to the visitors was given Bro. Daniel Wilson and replied to by yours truly complimenting all those who took part in tonight’s ceremony and finished with an amusing story, well I think it was!

Brethren, I can honestly say that Escafeld Lodge of M.M.M.No.1139 will go from strength to Strength in the hands of W.Bro. Phillip Glover.

With thanks to

W.Bro. Terry Sweet

P.Prov. G.Stwd.
