West Yorkshire Triumphs in the Annual ‘Ridings Cup’ Mark Golf Match

Malton and Norton Golf Club, 24th of October 2024.  The Annual inter-Provincial Mark Golf match between the Province of West Yorkshire and the Province of North and East Yorkshire saw a thrilling contest as West Yorkshire emerged victorious, reclaiming the coveted ‘Ridings Cup’ by a narrow margin.

Held at the picturesque Malton and Norton Golf Club, this year’s challenge match came with its share of hurdles for West Yorkshire, as two players were forced to withdraw on the morning of the competition. Despite facing a numerical disadvantage, the West Yorkshire team displayed remarkable resilience and determination, pulling off a well-fought win with a final score of 3.5 points to 2.5.

With both teams greeted by fine weather and the warm hospitality of the Mark fellowship, spirits were high as competitors took to the course. As shots rang out across the lush fairways, the intensity was palpable, reflecting the friendly yet fierce rivalry that has come to define the ‘Ridings Cup’ tradition. Each team battled to the final hole, with West Yorkshire edging out their local rivals to capture the trophy from last year’s holders, North and East Yorkshire.

The victory was a testament to West Yorkshire’s determination, skill, and unity, even under challenging circumstances. At the after-match dinner, R.W. Bro. Bob Clancy, Provincial Grand Master of North and East Yorkshire, graciously presented the ‘Ridings Cup’ to R.W. Bro. J. Trevor Bolton, Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire, amid camaraderie and applause.

Both Provinces are already eagerly anticipating next year’s encounter, as West Yorkshire looks forward to defending the title on home ground.
