Pontefract Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No 878. Friday 11th July 2025.

The Lodge was opened in due form by the Worshipful Commander, Worshipful Brother David Whitelaw after which all stood in memory of Worshipful Brother Paul Levy who had sadly passed to the Grand Lodge above. Paul was a conscientious, committed and much admired man, sadly missed.. The minutes of the previous meeting in April were confirmed . This was followed by a notice of a joining member, Worshipful Brother Geoffrey Pearce, a subscribing member of Hipperholme  Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No. 715,proposed by W.Bro David Whitelaw,  seconded by W.Bro Gary Parker Assistant Provincial Grand Master. A Ballot was taken which proved positive whereupon W.Bro.Geoff was admitted.

Attention then turned to the elevation of Brother Simon Clayforth, a member of Legiolium Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 457, proposed by W.Bro. David, the Worshipful Commander and Seconded by Worshipful Brother Gary Parker, Assistant Provincial Grand Master. After due examination, upon an alarm, Bro. Simon was admitted under the guidance of the Senior Deacon. Bro. Alan Law and Junior Deacon, Bro. Matt Brelsford, a regular visitor to the Lodge. Having been introduced around the Lodge, Bro. Simon was obligated in good style by W.Bro. David. This was followed by the Steps of the degree in the capable hands of Bro. Marcus Higgins with the Signs and Secrets delivered superbly by Worshipful Brother Ian Wolstencroft, a delight to witness both. Having been conducted to the Senior Wardens Pedestal, Bro. Simon was then presented with the Apron and Jewel of a Royal Ark Mariner Mason.  

It was then a pleasure to see W.Bro. John Whitworth present and explain the Working Tools. this was followed by the explanation of ,the nine steps safely in the hands of the Senior Deacon, Bro, Alan. Elevation complete, Bro. Simon took his seat in the Lodge.  The next item of note was to Elect the Worshipful Commander for the ensuing year, all agreed, the Senior Warden, Bro. Marcus Higgins was declared. This will take place on Friday, the 10th October, see you there, you will not be disappointed. No surprises for the next item, W.Bro. Brian Smart continuing as Treasurer! Final item of note, the report of the Almoner, W. Bro. John Derwanz, a most diligent and considered report for which he is to be congratulated,  well done John.

All adjourned for a well earned repas. Asparagus & Hollandaise Tart followed by Pork Schnitzel. Toasts then smoothly transacted at the direction of the D.C. W, Bro. John. W.Bro. David who was congratulated for bringing forth four candidates also admitted that he had received the offer of Royal Ark Mariner Provincial Grand Rank which he has accepted, well deserved. Simon had thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony and is looking forward to being involved In the future. This also applied to Bro. Geoff who said membership of Pontefract Mark had rekindled his passion for the Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariner and he very much was looking forward to the future, undoubtedly Pontefract RAM has unearthed two nuggets upon which to build future growth.
